Clean Water Initiative

Mapping and testing tube wells to ensure safe drinking water access

About

The Clean Water Tube-Wells Initiative works to improve access to safe drinking water through data-driven testing of water samples collected from corrupted tube-wells and community awareness, especially among students. Backed by North South University, the project identifies unsafe tube wells and ensures water samples are scientifically tested at the Asia Arsenic Network laboratory in their respective locations. Through this combined effort of research, testing, and education, we aim to promote safer water practices and healthier communities.

Clean Water Tube Wells

Our work combines field research, laboratory analysis, and community engagement to create measurable impact.

1. Field Sampling

We will collect water samples from numerous tube wells across multiple unions in a district covering a multitude of villages, ensuring each source is properly identified and recorded. Each location will be mapped using geolocation tools to maintain accurate tracking and documentation.

2. Scientific Collection Procedures

Samples will be collected in sterile 250 mL bottles, following standard procedures to prevent contamination. Each sample will be labeled using waterproof markers and assigned a unique identification code.

3. Laboratory Analysis

All samples will be tested at the Asia Arsenic Network laboratory facilities in their respective locations. Testing will focus on key indicators such as TDS, salinity level, pH, heavy metals, and arsenic. This ensures accurate, reliable, and data-driven results.

4. Data Analysis & Classification

Collected samples from tube-wells are assigned unique identification codes (WSBD-SM-01, 02 and so on) and linked to their recorded GPS coordinates, which are shown on the accompanying map. The data will be compiled into a structured dataset, and each tube well will be classified depending on laboratory analysis.

5. Community Education

Alongside testing, we will conduct awareness sessions at multiple local primary schools and madrassas. Students will be educated on: The importance of clean drinking water, health risks of contaminated water, and safe water practices.

Our Goal

To combine scientific testing with community education to create sustainable, measurable improvements in water safety across Bangladesh communities.
